Not much can be expected from the Bangladeshi teams — be it men’s or women’s. The latter have qualified for the Women’s World Cup 2025 for only the second time, and it surely would be a challenge for them to progress to the next round. Led by Nigar Sultana Joty, the team can surely spring surprises, but to expect a great result, or even progressing to the next round, would be a little too much for them, at this stage.
Nonetheless, InsideSport ranks the Bangladeshi squad for the Women’s World Cup 2025.
Batting relies heavily on Nigar Sultana (4/10)
Nigar Sultana, apart from being the skipper, is also their best batter. In 58 matches she has scored 1317 runs at an average of 28, with one ton and 7 fifties. The strike-rate is a problem at 57. There is Fargana Hoque too, who averages 27, but with a poorer strike-rate of 51. Then Sharmin Akhter averages 25 with a similar SR.
Inexperience in bowling shows (3/10)
The bowling revolves around left-arm spinner Nahida Akter. She is their best bowler with 69 wickets in 54 matches. Ritu Moni is there as a medium pacer, but looks like a part-timer with only 17 wickets in 49 matches. Leg-spinner Fahima Khatun has some experience with 35 wickets.. but pace attack is heavily under-staffed. Marufa Akter is their best bet there.
Bangladesh Full Squad: Nigar Sultana Joty (captain), Nahida Akter, Fargana Hoque, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Sharmin Akter Supta, Sobhana Mostary, Ritu Moni, Shorna Akter, Fahima Khatun, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter, Fariha Islam Trisna, Shanjida Akther Maghla, Nishita Akter Nishi, Sumaiya Akter
