Suryakumar Yadav withdrew his appeal during the India vs UAE clash at the Asia Cup 2025, upholding the spirit of cricket.

India clinched a rather straightforward win in their Asia Cup 2025 opener against UAE. The Men in Blue clinched a 9-wicket win in Dubai inside 5 overs in a dominant display. The clash was not without its moments though, with Suryakumar Yadav most notably displaying his sportsman spirit on Wednesday.

The incident happened in the 13th over of the UAE innings. Shivam Dube ran into bowl towards Junaid Siddique. The UAE batter backed away to pull and missed it completely. Sanju Samson collected it as the wicketkeeper and aimed at the stumps to catch Siddique out of the crease. The UAE batter was indeed short of the crease, but was busy pointing at the towel that fell out of Dube’s pocket. While the third umpire signalled it out, captain Suryakumar Yadav decided to withdraw the appeal. It did not matter much in the end, with Siddique holding out the very next delivery to Surya at mid off.

Surya’s gesture reminds many of the great MS Dhoni’s decision to call Ian Bell back during the England tour in 2011. Bell thought to have hit the ball to the boundary on the final ball of the session. It was however saved and the England star was short of his crease. Despite being behind in the game, Dhoni recalled him in a spirit of sportsmanship.
