Rishabh Pant injury update: India star eyes West Indies series, meets specialist in Mumbai

Rishabh Pant is back in India after a long break and has met with doctors in Mumbai in a bid to return for the IND vs WI Test series.

Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant is targeting a return for the India vs West Indies series in October. Pant has been out of action since fracturing his foot in the IND vs ENG series. He subsequently was ruled out of the Asia Cup and was on a break, but now has returned to India. The 27-year-old has also met up specialists to determine his recovery, with a packed calendar ahead.

Rishabh Pant still injured, consults doctors in Mumbai

As per Cricbuzz, Rishabh Pant arrived in India and has spent the past few days consulting specialist doctors in Mumbai. The 27-year-old fractured his foot while batting in the Manchester Test. He was wearing a moon boot and did not play any part in the rest of the game or the final Test. He was subsequently not considered for the Asia Cup 2025 which begins on September 9.

Pant remained in England on vacation and still has strapping on his foot as revealed in his latest social media post. The Indian vice-captain is expected to be back at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru soon to follow up on rehabilitation. Thew wicket-keeper has received a timeline from specialists and will work towards regaining full fitness shortly.

Pant was flown to Mumbai following his near-death car accident in 2022. He underwent extensive surgery and rehabilitation, including ‘learning to walk’ again. Given the success of his comeback, it is natural that the left-hander sought expert opinion regarding his latest setback.

Pant is eyeing a return for the India vs West Indies series. The Men in Blue play 2 Tests in Ahmedabad and Delhi. Pant’s availability is subject to him getting an all clear from the BCCI medical department. Should he miss out, the India vs Australia limited overs series could be his next assignment. Pant last played ODI cricket before his accident, but could be a vital cog with the 2027 World Cup in mind.
