On the fourth and final day of the Duleep Trophy semis in Bengaluru, South Zone went on to beat North Zone in the first encounter, on the basis of the first innings lead. Despite missing a few key players like Tilak Varma, Sai Kishore and Vijaykumar Vyshak, the team managed to script a victory, to progress to the final, where they will be up against the Central Zone.
The Rajat Patidar-led CZ too won their match against the West Zone, on the basis of the first innings lead. Now, the final between the two sides will be played from September 11, at the same venue, CoE in Bengaluru.
South Zone’s batting too hot to handle for North
On a visibly good pitch for batting, South Zone batters didn’t give an inch to the North bowlers and piled on 536 runs in the first innings. In return, they were bundled out for only 361. N Jagadeesan went on to score magnificent 197, while Devdutt Padikkal chipped in with 57, while Tanay Thyagarajan chipped in with a fifty lower down the order. The only highlight for the NZ was, opener Shubham Khajuria slammed a ton.
Lower-order chips in with runs for Central
Ruturaj Gaikwad made sure that his team West Zone made a huge total, with his excellent 184, but the other batters weren’t just up to the mark. India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was a big flop and was out for 4. Nonetheless, they made 438 in the first innings. But then Central Zone had contribution from all batter.
Stand-in skipper Patidar continued his excellent form this Duleep Trophy, and scored 77. Earlier Danish Malewar made 76 and Shubham Sharma fell short of his 100 by four runs. Keeper Upendra Yadav looked in good touch for his 87, followed by 75 by Harsh Dubey. Saransh Jain remained unbeaten at 63. Deepak Chahar (33) and Yash Thakur (21) also frustrated the opposition. The ended with a score of 600, and the match looked over there.
