The UPT20 League as been hit by a match-fixing controversy, a day prior to the final on September 6. It seems that the Lucknow Police has registered an FIR after the BCCI’s ACU reported a suspected approach to one of the teams in the tournament. It seems that the Kashi Rudra team manager Arjun Chauhan got an Instagram message from a user ‘vipss_nakrani’, who claimed to be a bookie and allegedly offered 1 Cr to fix matches, along with INR 50 lakh of commission, as per a report in Times Now.

Chauhan informed the ACU, and the latter latter laid down a trap, with the culprit sharing his Whatsapp number. If the report is to be further believed, the man in question claimed that his associates would be present at the ground to payout the money offered, instantly. The chats and calls were recorded and handed over to the police.
Kashi Rudra Asked to Fix Match
Now, DCP Nipun Agarwal has confirmed that the case has been registered under various sections. “We have registered a case against the unidentified suspect and his associates under BNS sections 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation), 112 (penalising organised crime), 62 (attempting to commit offences), section 3 of the Public Gambling Act, 1867, and Section 66D of the IT Act,” said DCP South Zone, Nipun Agarwal, as quoted by TOI.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Crime cell is not trying to track the IP address and online contacts involved. As far as the UPT20 league is concerned, Kashi Rudra and Meerut Mavericks have made it to the final, which will be played on Saturday, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
