EXCLUSIVE | 'Yuvraj Singh had only...': Yograj Singh opens up on son's bond with Virat Kohli

Yograj Singh spoke about Yuvraj's bond with Virat Kohli and claimed that his son had no friend except for Sachin Tendulkar

Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh opened up on his son Yuvraj’s bond with former Indian captain Virat Kohli and stated that they were never friends. The Punjab all-rounder, who announced his retirement in 2019, played under Kohli’s captaincy towards the end of his career. Yograj claimed that there were always backstabbers around his son who were fearful of the fact that Yuvraj would take over their positions.

Yuvraj Singh not friends with Virat Kohli

In an exclusive interview with InsideSport, Yograj claimed that there were no friends where there is success, glory and money involved and that he had told Yuvraj this. The former Indian cricketer claimed that Sachin Tendulkar was the only friend that his son had. When asked if Kohli could have helped Yuvraj when he was Indian captain, Yograj stated that all players, including MS Dhoni, were scared whether his son would take away their positions.

As I told you, there are no friends in the sphere of success, money and glory. There were always backstabbers, people who wanted to put you down. People were scared of Yuvraj Singh because they were afraid where he would usurp their seats because he was such a great player created by the God Almighty. He has been the greatest of players, who they were scared – right from MS Dhoni, everybody – ‘oh he might take my chair‘,” Yograj said.

After recovering from cancer, Yuvraj returned to cricket when Virat was the Indian captain. He played 11 ODIs in 2017 and a 24 T20Is between 2014 and 2017. He featured only in 3 T20Is and 11 ODIs under Kohli’s captaincy. Yuvraj also shared the dressing room with Virat in 2014 when he was a part of RCB for that season.

The former Indian cricketer last played in 2017 following which he fell out of the favour of the selectors. He then announced his retirement from all formats of the game in 2019.
