The suspense over India cricket team star Virat Kohli’s absence from fitness tests at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) has been put to rest. The former Indian captain reportedly completed his fitness assessment in England, becoming the first player out of the current lot to undergo the test on foreign soil. Virat was last seen in action in IPL 2025 and is expected to return to international cricket in October for the ODI series against Australia.
Kohli undergoes fitness test in England
As per Dainik Jagaran, Virat’s fitness test in England was overseen by the BCCI. A source told the publication that Kohli would have surely gotten the board’s approval to take the fitness test in England. All other Indian players, including ODI captain Rohit Sharma, visited the BCCI’s CoE in Bengaluru to complete the fitness assessment test. Kohli has retired from Tests and T20Is and remains active only in the 50-over format.
The report further states that Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep and Nitish Reddy will undergo their fitness assessment in September. Apart from these players, those who missed the first round of assessment due to injury or illness will also take the test along with the aforementioned stars.
As per the report, players who have cleared the fitness test at the CoE include Rohit, Siraj, Shubman Gill, Jitesh Sharma, Prasidh Krishna, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Harshit Rana, Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Rajat Patidar, Ravi Bishnoi, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakravarthy, Mukesh Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Sarfaraz Khan, Tilak Varma, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Dhruv Jurel, Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The first round of test assessed the players’ recovery pattern and basic strength. The report states that majority of the players fulfilled the parameters of the assessment.
