One of the biggest highlights of the recent IND vs ENG Test series was, the way the Indian boys fought out in the middle, even when the chips were down. The classic example was, when in the last Test of the series, the hosts were cruising to a win, and yet the bowlers — especially Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj found a way to bundle them out, with just six runs remaining.
Prasidh Krishna vs Joe Root at the Oval
In that very match, one incident that really perplexed one on all was — the heated exchange between Prasidh, and the usually calm Joe Root. The interaction had to be curtailed down by the umpires, and looked ugly. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, the bowler opened up on, as to what had actually happened out there in the middle.
“I don’t know why Rooty reacted,” Prasidh said at the end of the day’s play. “I just said, ‘you’re looking in great shape’ and then it turned into a lot of abuse and all of that.” Later, the two did settle it all. “I did go and speak to most of them – including Root,” Prasidh added. “I asked him what happened. He said, ‘I thought you abused me’. I said, ‘No’, and he replied, ‘I actually just wanted to get myself going as well, so I had to pump myself up’.
Was a Case of Misunderstanding
“That’s what I love about the sport – that’s the way I’ve always played it. To see everybody, and especially a legend like him, putting it all out there and fighting for the team, even today, that’s something for everyone to learn from. You’re out there to fight, to win battles. Sometimes it takes a lot more than just skill; it takes a lot of mental grit to be part of that journey.”
Prasidh Krishna ended the series with 14 wickets in the series, that according to him, was worthy of a TV Series. “I don’t think any of us expected the series to go that way. It kept swinging back and forth and, in hindsight, 2-2, we’re really happy with how we played the whole series.”
