Former RCB star Ab de Villiers opined that Rahul Dravid was ‘sort of kicked out’ of the Rajasthan Royals camp following his departure as the head coach. RR decided to part ways with the former Indian head coach after just one season with him at the helm of affairs. RR stated that Dravid had been offered a broader position in the franchise but had turned it down.
Dravid booted out of RR?
In a video on his YouTube channel, de Villiers attempted to draw a parallel between what happens in football leagues when teams don’t win trophies to Dravid’s exit. He opined that the ex-RR coach turning down the offer for another role was an indication that he was kicked out.
“It sounds to me like the fact that he turned down that other role, sort of that he was kicked out, which is never ideal,” said de Villiers.
Dravid joined RR as head coach in 2024 shortly after he ended his stint with Team India. However, things did not go RR’s way in IPL 2025 as they finished 9th on the points table. Stakeholders, the support staff of RR will meet with owner Manoj Badale in London to discuss the future course of action.
de Villiers reckoned that RR may want to shake things up and attempt a revamp before IPL 2026. He noted that the team did not have a good auction strategy in place before IPL 2025.
“Maybe RR have different ideas for the upcoming season. Maybe they want to shake things up a bit and move forward with that. I don’t think they had the greatest auction last time, as they let go of some incredible players, the likes of Jos Buttler, to name but a few, which I thought was a mistake. You can let one or two go, but they. They let a huge bulk of their team go at once, I think, a gradual sort of decline,” he added.
