Was Indian pacer Akash Deep unfit, and hence did not play in the Duleep Trophy? Perhaps not. The star bowler needed some break before the West Indies Test series, after six months of cricket. Despite being named in the East Zone squad, Akash withdrew from the competition.
Akash Deep Fit, But Body Needs Rest
But speaking at an event, he has dismissed all rumours. “There was no injury, just an impact. I’ll start bowling tomorrow. I’m feeling good. I’ve been playing continuously for six months, so my body needed a bit of rest,” Akash Deep told reporters during the CAB’s annual awards function.
Akash Deep played a crucial role in the IND vs ENG series, where in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, he ended up picking 10 wickets in the Edgbaston Test, that India won comfortably. Even though he did not play all the matches, yet the series as a whole could be quit draining. “When you go to England or Australia, it’s tough to play five matches. You have to be mentally and physically stronger,” he said.
“Not in My Hands”
He also made it clear, that playing or resting is not in his hands. “It’s not in my hands. It depends on the team staff and physios—they manage these things. They follow a process; it’s in their hands,” he said. Meanwhile, the West Indies Test series is due to start in October, where he would once again look to come up with solid performances. The squad for the same could be announced soon as well.
