'Shared the truth': Lalit Modi defends releasing clip of Harbhajan slapping 'victim' Sreesanth

Lalit Modi has come down hard on Sreesanth's wife for going after him for releasing the video of Harbhajan slapping the pacer

Days after former IPL chairman Lalit Modi made the video of Sreesanth getting slapped by Harbhajan Singh in IPL 2008 public, he has defended his move. His remarks come after the Kerala bowler’s wife lashed out at him for putting the video out on public domain, especially after both players have moved on from the incident. Hitting out at Sreesanth’s wife, Modi said that all he had done was just sharing the truth, adding that her husband was in fact the victim.

Speaking to news agency IANS, Modi claimed that he had just shared the truth on being asked a question and that there was no need for Sreesanth’s wife to get angry. He said that the pacer was the victim in that case, adding that no one had asked him about that infamous incident earlier and hence he spoke about did when Clarke posed the query.

I don’t know why she is getting angry. I was asked a question, and I shared the truth. I can’t do anything about that. I am known to speak the truth. Sree was the victim, and that’s exactly what I said. No one had asked me this question earlier, so when Clarke quipped, I responded,” Modi said.

What Sreesanth’s wife had said

Bhuvneshwari Sreesanth took to Instagram to condemn Modi and Clarke for reopening old wounds. The altercation took place during the first season of the IPL in Mohali, when Harbhajan, then captain of Mumbai Indians, slapped Sreesanth after a match against Kings XI Punjab. The incident was caught on camera, with Sreesanth seen in tears, and quickly became one of the most controversial moments in the league’s history.

“Shame on you @lalitkmodi and @michaelclarkeofficial. You people are not even human to drag up something from 2008 just for your own cheap publicity and views. Both @sreesanthnair36 and Harbhajan have long moved on, they are fathers now with school-going children, and yet you try to throw them back into an old wound. Absolutely disgusting, heartless, and inhuman,” she wrote.
