Former India head coach Rahul Dravid will be on the look out for a new IPL team after parting ways with Rajasthan Royals. On Saturday, RR took to social media to inform that The Wall had ended his association with the team and had even turned down an offer for a broader position in the franchise. While there is still a lot of time left for IPL 2026, there are high chances that Dravid could return to the coaching setup soon, should he opt to do so.
Where will Dravid go next?
As per Cricbuzz, a few IPL teams are keen on roping in Dravid as a part of their support staff for the next edition of the IPL. Rahul’s exit from RR means there are currently two teams without coaches – the other one being KKR who parted ways with Chandrakant Pandit earlier in July. Dravid joined RR as head coach before the IPL 2025, shortly after he finished his stint as India’s head coach following the T20 World Cup win in 2024.
While some reports have claimed that Kumar Sangakkara could potentially replace Dravid as RR’s head coach, others have speculated that the latter’s exit from the team could be owing to differences with the franchise’s think tank. RR are scheduled to have a meeting with team owner Manoj Badale in London where further clarity on the future is expected.
Dravid was last associated with RR in 2014 and 2015, playing the role of a mentor. After 2015, Dravid was associated with the BCCI, having been the head coach for India’s U-19 and India A teams. He then become the director at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before becoming the new head coach for India in 2021. Dravid finished his career as India coach on a high note, leading the team to their 2nd T20 World Cup win.
