Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary took a sly dig at MS Dhoni after reports on Saturday claimed that the ex-captain had been offered a mentor role for Team India. MSD last mentored the Men in Blue during the T20 World Cup 2021 when Ravi Shastri was the team’s head coach. Tiwary, a vociferous critic of Dhoni, wondered if the former captain had attended the board’s call, noting that he was tough to reach out to.
Tiwary takes dig at Dhoni
Speaking to news agency ANI, Tiwary claimed that Dhoni’s addition as mentor to Team India would be very useful, given his experience as a player and a captain. The former Indian cricketer said that the pairing of Dhoni and head coach Gautam Gambhir will be worth watching. However, he did take a subtle dig at Dhoni, claiming that many players in the past had claimed that he was tough to reach out to via a phone.
“Did he pick up the phone? Because it is difficult to reach him on the phone… The first thing is whether he will accept the role or not… His experience as a captain and player will be very useful, as the new players emerging today and becoming stars of the Indian team give him a lot of respect. The pairing of MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir will also be worth watching,” Tiwary claimed.
As per CricBlogger, a BCCI source claimed that Dhoni has been offered to mentor Team India once again. The report states that the board believes that the former captain’s guidance could play a key role in shaping the next generation of Indian cricketers. It is no secret that Dhoni and head coach Gautam Gambhir share a bittersweet relationship. The report claims that Dhoni is unlikely to take the offer because of his former teammate.
