India’s ODI and Test captains, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, have checked in at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence for pre-season fitness assessments. Apart from them, Mohammed Siraj, Jitesh Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shardul Thakur have also arrived in Bengaluru.
Rohit Sharma to undergo fitness test
Rohit and Siraj were reported to undergo fitness assessment on either August 30 or 31, with Gill also joining them. The Indian ODI captain has been reported to have shown interest in playing for India A against Australia A on September 30, October 3 and 5 at Kanpur as preparations for the ODI series against Australia.
Siraj and Sundar arrive for Duleep Trophy?
Gill was expected to play in the Duleep Trophy but couldn’t due to viral fever. As for Siraj, he isn’t part of India’s squad for the Asia Cup. Although he hasn’t been included in South Zone’s squad for the Duleep Trophy, he might be added as a last-minute entry and perhaps that’s why he’s checked in now. Washington like Siraj wasn’t part of South Zone’s squad but could be added as well. Same goes for KL Rahul who hasn’t checked in yet.
Jitesh and Bumrah are part of the Asia Cup squad, and Team India will leave for Dubai on September 4. Jaiswal and Shardul are part of the West Zone team. Others like Tilak Varma, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Kuldeep Yadav have already been camped in at the CoE.
No signs of Virat Kohli
While all the other cricketers are present in Bengaluru, Virat Kohli is nowhere to be found. Recently, it was learnt that he has started practicing in London. But unlike Rohit, he hasn’t checked in at the CoE. Nothing suggests that he has any interest in playing for India A before the Australia ODI series.
