South Delhi Superstarz spinner Digvesh Rathi has been handed a hefty penalty following his altercation with Nitish Rana during the DPL 2025 knockout tie. The incident occurred during the Eliminator clash between West Delhi Lions and South Delhi Superstarz on Friday which saw the duo exchange some words in what was a heated moment. West Delhi skipper Rana wasn’t spared either, as he too was penalized for his antics on the field.
Rana, Rathi fined after on-field spat in DPL 2025
As per DPL’s press release, Rathi has been fined 80% of his match fee for his altercation with Rana. The batter smashed the spinner for three consecutive sixes in the 8th over of the run-chase. This was followed by an verbal exchange between the duo. Next, Rana reverse swept Rathi for a six which resulted in the matter escalating. This isn’t the first time that Rathi is getting into trouble. Earlier in IPL 2025, he was fined thrice and even missed a match because of his fiery send off.
“Digvesh Rathi has been fined 80% of the Match Fees for a Code of Conduct breach under Article 2.2 (Level 2) for the conduct contrary to the spirit of the game,” the DPL press release stated.
Nitish wasn’t spared either as he was fined 50% of his match fee for his actions. The exchange forced the umpires and members of both teams to intervene in order to contain the situation. Rana even delivered one of Rathi’s iconic notebook celebrations after the six as well.
“Nitish Rana has been fined 50% of the match fees for a Code of Conduct breach under Article 2.6 (Level 1) – Using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during a match,” the release added.
Nitish Rana hammered eight boundaries and 15 sixes in his match-winning unbeaten knock of 134 off just 55 deliveries. He led the West Delhi Lions to a 7-wicket win in the Eliminator.
