Prithvi Shaw’s back on track. The talented batter has switched states and will be representing Maharashtra instead of Mumbai. The move has already started to work. Featuring in the Buchi Babu Tournament, Prithvi scored a hundred against Chhattisgarh and followed it up with a half-century against TNCA President’s XI.
Prithvi Shaw taking fitness seriously
Prithvi isn’t the only one who’s pleased. Maharashtra’s chairman of selectors, Akshay Darekar, is elated to have a talented batter like him in the team. The former left-arm spinner thinks the 25-year-old has returned to the method that once made him one of the most exciting talents in the world.
Having received criticism for neglecting fitness and his lack of work ethic, Prithvi has committed to becoming the best version of himself again.
“Prithvi is on the right track. There was never an issue with his batting. He is focused and keen to make a statement with his bat. He is completely committed to his fitness too and has been doing his training drills religiously,” Darekar told mid-Day.
Hungry to score big in Ranji Trophy
Maharashtra wants Prithvi to help them get to their first Ranji Trophy semifinals after more than a decade. It’s not like there’s no talent with guys like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sachin Dhas, and Arshin Kulkarni present. But Prithvi’s addition could be what Maharashtra needs. It will also be a personal achievement for the aggressive opener, whose reputation has been tainted for non-cricketing reasons.
“We know he always likes to play aggressively and dominate the opposition. And he batted the same way in his first two matches for Maharashtra at the Buchi Babu Tournament. His class was evident in both those knocks. He is hungry to score big runs. The target is to help Maharashtra reach the Ranji knockouts through his strong performances.
The more he performs, the better it will be, not just for our team but also for him, as he can achieve his individual goals too. He realises that this upcoming season will be crucial for him and he wants to make it count,” he added.
