Keeper-batter Sanju Samson revealed that he was quite shocked to see the talent in Kerala cricket amid the ongoing Kerala Cricket League. The India cricket team star, who is the captain of the Kochi Blue Tigers, slammed a 42-ball century on Sunday to guide his team to a last-ball win against Aries Kollam Sailors. Samson claimed that the state boasted of an enormous amount of talent in cricket and that more attention needs to be paid to the state.
Samson’s candid admission on Kerala cricket
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Samson admitted that he was not much aware of the local talent that he was sharing the dressing room with. He put forth a request, asking for ‘special eyes’ on the talent who are taking part in the local games. Sanju claimed that he could see at least two or three players from Kerala going on to play for India in the near future.
“To be very honest, I’m not much aware of the boys. But as much as I’m spending time with them, I’m getting very excited. Very exciting talent in the team. It’s a bit shocking to see we have so much talent in Kerala cricket. I request that we have to put in some special eyes in the local games going on, especially all the players. In the next one or two years, we should see one more guy playing for the country. And I can see that happening. With this talent, I don’t think that we are much far away,” said Samson.
Samson and S Sreesanth are the only notable names who have gone on to play cricket for India from Kerala over the last decade.
Talking about Samson’s knock, he struck 14 fours and seven sixes en route to his 121-run knock. After being dismissed cheaply in his first match in KCL, Sanju served a timely reminder before the Asia Cup with his whirlwind knock.
