Just a day after England’s Jonathan Trott left his role as the head coach of the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, just a year after his joining, Sourav Ganguly has been named the replacement. Trott had taken over the team before the 2025 season, and failed to make it to the playoffs, registering only two wins in 10 matches. A post on X said: “Jonathan Trott, forever grateful for your leadership and unwavering dedication to the team.”

“All the best on your next adventure! Once a Capital, always a Capital!” Meanwhile, Trott is also the Afghanistan coach, and is expected to keep the role till the end of the T20 World Cup in India & Sri Lanka in Feb and March 2026. On the other hand, Sourav Ganguly will start his journey as the new coach from December 26, with the SA20 scheduled to end on Jan 25.
This would be the first time that Ganguly will hold the position of a head coach with any team, but has been associated with various franchises as a director or mentor. He was the team director for DC between 2018-19 and then 2022-24. He is currently the director of cricket at JSW Sports, and sees the functioning of Delhi Capitals women in the WPL.
