No tickets, no home advantage: 45 days to go, BCCI repeating 2023 WC mistakes with Women's World Cup

India are set to play at 5 different venues in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025, with no ticketing information out yet.

The ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 is just 45 days away but no information on tickets have been released by the BCCI. The Indian Cricket Board will host the tournament across 5 different venues, including the India vs Pakistan clash in Colombo. The buzz around the marquee event is light, with BCCI guilty of repeating some of their mistakes from the 2023 World Cup.

No tickets, travel arrangements in disarray

The BCCI are yet to release ticketing information for the Women’s World Cup. The same was the case in the 2023 World Cup, with delays, staggered releases and never ending virtual queues. Despite tickets being declared sold out in seconds, stands were seemingly empty, with some tickets available on the day of the game. While tickets could still be announced, it leaves fans with little time for fans to arrange for travel arrangements.

Given the festive season, fans will have to pay a premium for travel arrangements, and risk losing out on a seat altogether. The tickets for the 2023 World Cup ranged from 499 to 40,000. While the prices are likely to come down, air fares and train tickets to the venues would be far more expensive.

Obscure venues, no home advantage

The Women’s World Cup will be played at 4 venues in India – Vishakapatnam, Guwahati, Indore and Bengaluru and one in Sri Lanka – Colombo. Bengaluru however is likely to lose out to Thiruvananthapuram, following the stampede following RCB’s title win. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will play their warm up matches at the Centre of Excellence before moving on to other venues.

However it is no secret that the venues chose are no popular centres. The Indian women’s cricket team have played games in Mumbai, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Vadodara and Rajkot in recent times. However they will play at none of these venues. The Indian Express reported that the traditional cricket centres were ‘saved’ for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

India have not played at Vishakapatnam since 2014. Thiruvananthapuram has never hosted a women’s ODI before. With their choice of venues, BCCI has handicapped any advantage the home team would have received as hosts. India are potentially playing at 6 different venues, none where they have made a mark in the past.

India failed to make the knock outs in the 2021 World Cup. A home World Cup was a chance to buck on that trend and potentially end their title drought. India might still win, but it would be despite the BCCI and not with their support.
