IPL 2026: LSG and Zaheer Khan to part ways, Sanjiv Goenka to name Director of Cricket soon

IPL 2026: Zaheer Khan had joined Lucknow Super Giants in 2024, after Morne Morkel's departure.

LSG is set to part ways with mentor Zaheer Khan, who had been with the team since 2024, as per a report in the Times of India. The development has come a few days after Bharat Arun was roped in as the bowling coach of the team. “LSG is set to part ways with Zaheer Khan and the new mentor will be given a bigger role to monitor RPSG Group’s other franchises,” a source told TOI.

No More Zaheer Khan for LSG?

It seems that LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka will soon announce the Director of Cricket, who will not only look-after the yearly development of LSG, but other teams under the umbrella — Durban Super Giants in the SA20 and Manchester Originals in The Hundred.

Meanwhile, Zaheer Khan had come into the picture after the exit of Gautam Gambhir and Morne Morkel. And before that the Indian was associated with MI until 2022. “Arun’s role is also extensive as he will be given an extra responsibility for scouting and working on their young quicks for Durban’s Super Giants and, from next year, with the Manchester Originals as well,” the source added.

New Director Cricket Soon

LSG had a forgettable IPL 2025, where under new skipper Rishabh Pant, the team finished 7th after winning 6 matches and losing 8. After being appointed the bowling coach, Arun had said, “It’s an honour to join the Lucknow Super Giants, a franchise that reflects professionalism, ambition, and vision at every level.”

“My conversations with Dr. Sanjiv Goenka and the management were incredibly energizing — there is a clear intent to invest in young Indian talent and build a long-term legacy. What excites me most is the vision for long-term development. LSG has invested in a young, talented, and dynamic group of Indian fast bowlers — Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, Prince Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Akash Singh — and I see immense potential in each of them. My mission is to help shape them into a cohesive, fearless, and tactically sharp pace unit that can challenge the best batting line-ups in the world.”
