Rohit Sharma is not yet done despite rumour mill circulating his retirement. Rohit retired from Test cricket and T20Is in the last 12 months but plans to continue playing ODIs until the 2027 World Cup. And while the Indian team is gearing up for the Asia Cup 2025 assignment, the Hit-Man has paired up with former teammate Abhishek Nayar to return to full fitness.

Rohit Sharma is eyeing a return to match fitness and has paired up with Abhishek Nayar to get into his best shape. Nayar and Rohit were longtime teammates at Mumbai before the former retired and ventured into coaching. He was part of Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff at KKR and Indian cricket team. Nayar was released from his duties after the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which was Rohit Sharma’s last test series.
Rohit has been out of action since the IPL 2025 came to a close in early June. The 38-year-old has enjoyed his vacation, attending the India vs England 5th Test at The Oval. Now back in Mumbai, he has sought out Nayar. The former India team coach is known for his cooaching helping the likes of Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul get the best of their game. Rohit is a vocal supporter of Nayar’s coaching and has now sought it out himself.
Rohit will return to action post Asia Cup 2025. He and Virat Kohli will be in the ODI squad for the series against Australia in October. India play 27 ODIs until the 2027 World Cup and the pressure will be on Rohit to showcase he still has what it takes to lead the side at the top of the order.
As for Nayar, he has since moved to pastures anew after the Indian team stint. The former India player is now the head coach at UP Warriorz in the WPL. Nayar was also roped in at KKR for IPL 2025 and is likely to continue despite a coaching overhaul.
