Nitish Kumar Reddy won’t be out for too long. The all-rounder who had injured his knee was expected to be out of action for a long period. But luckily, his injury isn’t that severe. While training at the gym, Nitish had seemingly hurt himself just a couple of days before the India vs England 4th Test.
“All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests owing to a left knee injury. Nitish will fly back home, and the team wishes him a speedy recovery,” the BCCI said in a release.
Nitish Reddy’s recovery time from knee injury
Nitish returned to India and began his rehab at home. It wasn’t until last week that he reported to the Centre of Excellence (previously the National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru. According to The Telegraph India, Nitish has sustained a Grade I knee injury, which suggests he hasn’t torn his ligament but has sustained slight damage.
“Nitish began his rehab at home first after returning from England. He then headed to the Centre of Excellence last week and is stationed there for a full-fledged recovery process,” a BCCI official said.
“So far, his rehab has gone well. Things will be clearer by next week. But yes, he’s certainly striving to make the Asia Cup squad and hasn’t given up hope at all. One big advantage of Nitish is that he’s only 22, which should help in recovering faster,” he added.
Sight set for Asia Cup
These types of injuries generally take about 3 to 4 weeks to recover from. This would mean Nitish could very well be at his physical best in a week from now. That’s the same time the BCCI will announce India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025.
Nitish has played just 4 T20Is but was part of the last series India played against England in late January and early February. He only featured in one game during the series and had to be pulled out due to an injury.
But he was very much part of the main Indian team. This means he’ll be in contention for the Asia Cup as well. If Nitish hasn’t regained fitness or isn’t preferred by selectors, we might see him against the West Indies in October.
