DPL 2025: Rahul Chaudhary goes from hat-trick heroics to blunder in 5 balls

With South Delhi Superstarz needing 12 runs from 6 balls to win the match, Rahul Chaudhary claimed a last-over hat-trick but New Delhi Tigers still lost the match.

One of the most spectacular overs you’ll see! The match between the South Delhi Superstarz and the New Delhi Tigers ended in such a spectacular fashion that everyone who missed it will regret it. The high-scoring game looked one-sided until the 38th over. South Delhi needed 24 runs in 2 overs and had 3 wickets in hand.

Even though they lost a couple of wickets, New Delhi shouldn’t have been able to beat them. But South Delhi wasn’t used to winning. In the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 season, they hadn’t won one match. They were thrashed in their first three games, and the fourth one got abandoned.

But New Delhi wasn’t much better. After winning their first, they lost the next three. A battle of mids, as the youngsters say. Prince Yadav for Vision Panchal was out in the 19th over, but 12 runs still came off it. South Delhi was on track to win. Enter Rahul Chaudhary.

Miracle to misery for Rahul Chaudhary

The left-arm spinner hadn’t bowled well. He was hit for 35 runs in his 3 overs, but captain Himmat Singh had no other choice but to hand him the ball. Rahul got a well-set Anmol Sharma out on the first ball. All-rounder Sumit Mathur skied one in the air, and wicketkeeper batter Gulzar Sandhu hit one straight to the man at cover.

Within 3 balls, the match had changed. Rahul had taken a hat-trick out of nowhere. The first of DPL 2025. Now, South Delhi needed 12 runs from 3 balls and with just 3 wickets in hand. On an all-time high, Rahul erred massively and gave 5 wides.

New Delhi was still in the game. A double on the fourth ball of the over meant 5 runs were needed in 2 balls. All-rounder Abhishek Khandelwal smashed it out of the park on the penultimate ball of the match to win it for his team. Rahul went from hero to zero in the matter of a few minutes. From all-time high to new low. But that’s just cricket for you.
