Karun Nair had waited over 8 years to make a comeback to India’s Test team. When the chance finally came, Nair didn’t do himself any justice. 0, 20, 31, 26, 40, and 14 – these were his scores in the first three matches of the India vs England Test series.
Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir had granted him opportunities, not once but thrice. They had even dropped Sai Sudharsan for the second and third matches, but Nair failed to justify his selection over him.
The viral Karun Nair crying video
Nair got starts in all but one inning. So, with the series on the line, he was dropped for the Manchester Test. Obviously, Nair was gutted. Who wouldn’t be? During the game, a video surfaced where the experienced batter was seen crying on the player’s balcony with his good friend KL Rahul by his side. The video went viral.
Was it fake or real?
However, something seemed off about it. The video showed the Lord’s balcony. However, the match was being played at Old Trafford. That meant that the clip was from the third Test instead of the fourth. So, it wasn’t from the Manchester Test. But it could still have been real. In an exclusive chat with InsideSport, Nair revealed what really happened.
“I think that was an AI (artificial intelligence)-generated video. That’s not the real video at all. Yes, we were sitting on the balcony, but everything that was shown in that video wasn’t real,” Nair told InsideSport.
The 33-year-old also shared that having two Karnataka teammates, Rahul and Prasidh Krishna, was really helpful. He has been playing with Rahul for 12 years, while Prasidh came into the picture a little bit later. During some tough times, including getting dropped and low scores, Nair leaned on them for support.
“It was good to have Prasidh and KL with me. Really had a lot of fun in the last 2 months. We spent a lot of time together. Discussed a lot about cricket, about being back in the dressing room, and everything else,” Nair added.
