If fitness was a reflection of team’s performance on the field, then Bangladesh unfortunately isn’t doing too well on both accounts. The Asia Cup 2025 is only a month away, and the Bangladesh cricket team’s latest fitness training, hasn’t shown great results. As per a report in Cricbuzz, in the 1600m running test on Sunday, at the National Stadium, out of the 22 players participating, most of them came up with disappointing results.
Poor Fitness Test Results for Mustafizur & Taskin
While the players were earlier monitored by the yo-yo test, ever since new strength and conditioning coach Nathan Keily has arrived, the focus has shifted to 1600m run, followed by 40m sprints. What was shocking is — pacer Mustafizur Rahman, along with Taskin Ahmed, Tanvir Islam and Shamim Patowary took close to eight minutes, which isn’t satisfactory by any stretch of imagination.
It was fast bowler Nahid Rana, who came up with the best results, and clocked only 5 minutes and 31 seconds. “Rana was just outstanding,” a member of the team management told Cricbuzz on Sunday. “Few others also did well, but at the same time there were couple of cricketers who could not meet our expectations.”
Nahid Rana the Best of the Lot
Before the Bangladeshi team heads to the UAE for the Asia Cup 2025, they will play three T20Is against the Netherlands. Coming back to the test, Mehedi Hasan Miraz finished second in the first batch of players, with 6 minutes and 1 second. Suprisingly, Mushfiqur Rahim, who is 38 now, clocked 6 minutes and 10 seconds.
In the second group, Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the best, finishing the mark in 5 minutes and 53 second. Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Parvez Hossain Emon also completed their challenge in 6 minutes. Meanwhile, the ones to miss the fitness test were, skipper Liton Das, and Towhid Hridoy. Now, the fitness camp will move to Sylhet on August 20.
