India cricket team captain Shubman Gill’s Test jersey from the game at Lord’s has been sold for over Rs 5 lakh at an auction post IND vs ENG Test series. The Punjab batter’s signed jersey, which was among the items donated to Andrew Strauss’ charity Red for Ruth, fetched the highest amount among other memorabile at the Budds auction. India went on to lose the IND vs ENG 3rd Test at Lord’s by 22 runs after which they bounced back in stellar fashion.
Gill’s jersey sold for whooping 4600 euros
As per the description provided on Budds auction website, the special edition jersey worn by Gill shows “signs of match wear, with staining and is unwashed.” While the estimated cost was £120-£150, the final amount that the item was sold for was £4500.
“This special-edition shirt, worn in support of the Ruth Strauss Foundation, features the official India Test crest and shows visible signs of match wear, with staining and unwashed.Gill, renowned for his graceful stroke play and calm temperament, is one of the brightest talents in world cricket. Ben Stokes jersey from the game was sold for £3400, Joe Root’s at £3800, Rishabh Pant’s at £3400, KL Rahul’s at £4000, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja’s at £4200 each among others. Earlier, news agency PTI reported that Bumrah had donated his shoes to the MCC museum following his five-wicket-haul at Lord’s.
The IND vs ENG series marked Shubman Gill’s first as captain after taking over the reins from Rohit Sharma. The batter finished the series as the top-scorer, amassing 740 runs in 5 matches. He narrowly missed out on overtaking Sunil Gavaskar on the list of most runs scored in a Test series.
