Sanju Samson is adamant on a move away from Rajasthan Royals with the IPL 206 trading window in effect. Samson has been part of the Royals set up since his debut in 2013 but now the relationship has broken down. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are among franchises interested in the Indian wicketkeeper batsman.
Sanju Samson wants trade or release, Rajasthan Royals exploring options
As per Cricbuzz, Sanju Samson has formally requested a move away from the Rajasthan Royals. Samson has played for the franchise for 11 seasons and has been their long term captain since 2022. However, the Kerala star’s relationship with the franchise is not the same. The report states Sanju’s family has openly stated his desire to not continue with the Royals. The India star either wants to be released or trade before the new season.
KKR and CSK have both held long term interest in Samson. Sanju was part of the KKR set up in 2012, but did not play for the franchise. CSK eye the Kerala star as MS Dhoni’s successor, with the 44-year-old in his final years in the IPL.
Royals had retained Samson for Rs 18 crore- the highest bracket – before the IPL 2025 auction. A release would be counter productive, with the prices exorbitant and options limited in the mini auctions. Samson is under contract with RR until 2027 and they could ideally hold on to him till the next mega auction.
Royals have received trade offers for Samson, but have found none of those offers acceptable. Chennai Super Kings have interest but the franchise do not want to trade players as a trade. CSK would be keen to splurge on the 30-year-old in the auction, should Samson be released.
