India’s Test captain Shubman Gill and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal are all set to return to T20Is as the duo are likely to be a part of the Asia Cup 2025 squad. The 8-nation tournament, featuring India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, Oman and Hong Kong, will be held between September 9-28 in UAE and Abu Dhabi. India are currently on a long break following the conclusion of the IND vs ENG Test series.
Gill, Jaiswal to be included in Asia Cup 2025 squad
As per news agency PTI, Gill, Jaiswal are reportedly in fray for selection in India’s Asia Cup squad. The report claims that the selectors are keeping their options open even though the Test series against West Indies is scheduled to begin just days after the Asia Cup 2025 final, which will be held on September 28. Additionally, the report also states that Sai Sudharsan, who has played only one T20I so far, is also likely to be considered for selection.
Both Gill and Jaiswal last featured in a T20I back in July 2024 in the series against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Sudharsan’s last and only T20I appearance came against Zimbabwe in July 2024. The BCCI is expected to announce the preliminary squad for Asia Cup 2025 later this week.
All three above mentioned batters had a phenomenal IPL 2025 season. Sudharsan was the Orange Cap winner, amassing 759 runs from 15 innings, including a century and six fifties. GT captain Gill was the side’s second leading-run scorer, managing to score 650 runs from 15 matches. Meanwhile, Jaiswal did not have the best of the start to his IPL 2025 campaign but still managed to impress. He ammassed 559 runs from 14 matches.
While Gill and Jaiswal are all but sure to feature in India’s probable squad for Asia Cup 2025, it remains to be seen if the selectors will be keen on Sudharsan’s inclusion.
