Team India selectors want pace line-up revamped, 6-7 stars asked to attend camp at CoE

In a bid to revamp India's fast-bowling line-up, the selectors have asked 6-7 pacers to undergo a fortnight-long camp at the CoE

India cricket team selectors have asked 6-7 pacers to attend a fitness-cum-bowling programme at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. The fortnight long training session commenced from Wednesday onwards in order to develop India’s pace attack and move on from just relying on Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. The moves comes after India were boggled by multiple injury concerns and workload management during the IND vs ENG Test series that exposed the dearth of reliable pacers for India.

Selectors want to revamp Indian pace line-up

As per Times of India, a source claimed that the selectors have sought a revamp of the Indian fast-bowling line-up. The seven pacers who have been asked to attend the camp at CoE include Khaleel Ahmed, Tushar Deshpande, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Yash Thakur, Raj Angad Bawa, Yudhvir Singh and Anshul Kamboj. Kamboj, who recently made his Test debut in the IND vs ENG 4th Test, was the latest to get an invitation from the BCCI to join the camp in Bengaluru.

The selectors have realised that there is a need to revamp the fast-bowling line-up. Hence, the six-seven pacers of India have been asked to undergo a fitness-cum-bowling camp so that they are ready for any international assignment in the future,” the source said.

Previously, in February 2024, the BCCI introduced fast-bowling contracts for six pacers. The stars included Mayank Yadav, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak and Vidwath Kaverappa. However, the fast-bowling contracts was scrapped earlier this year when the BCCI revised the central contracts list. Apart from Akash Deep, who is a regular now in the Indian Test side, the rest of the bowlers on the list were either battling injuries through the course of the year or were simply not picked for any format.
