On the eve of the Manchester Test, India’s captain Shubman Gill hinted that Anshul Kamboj will make his debut. At the toss, that’s exactly what happened. Gill’s done something similar a day before the Oval Test. Arshdeep Singh could very well make his Test debut in the India vs England 5th Test.
Arshdeep Singh set to make his Test debut
Arshdeep was expected to play in Manchester, but an untimely injury to his hand forced him out. It looked like that injury isn’t troubling the left-arm pacer anymore. Gill has stated that Arshdeep has been asked to be prepared. The playing XI hasn’t been finalised just yet because we still don’t know whether grass will be shaved off the pitch or not.
“Arshdeep Singh has been asked to get ready, but we will take a call on the Playing XI after looking at the pitch by this evening,” Gill told reporters at the Oval.
No place for Kuldeep Yadav
A little while ago, England named their playing XI. Apart from the shocking news that Ben Stokes won’t play, one thing piqued interest. It was that England isn’t fielding a frontline spinner. Now, it’s either an indication that the pitch has been made for fast bowlers or that it’s so flat they think Liam Dawson won’t have any effect on it.
What does this suggest? Well, Gill didn’t outrightly say or even hint towards it, but his comment on the matter suggested that Kuldeep Yadav won’t be playing. It seems like Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar will be the two spinners India goes ahead with.
“England haven’t picked a frontline spinner; we have Jadeja and Washi to do the job,” Gill added.
