After sustaining a fracture to his toe, Rishabh Pant has rejoined India's dressing room amid Day 2 of IND vs ENG 4th Test

Rishabh Pant has rejoined the India cricket team dressing room on Day 2 of IND vs ENG 4th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. Ahead of play on Day 2, reports claimed that the southpaw has been advised 6 weeks of rest after sustaining a fracture to his left toe. Pant was struck on his leg after attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes on Day 1 following which the batter was carried off the field.

Pant rejoins Indian team in Manchester, but will he bat?

The BCCI confirmed that while Pant will not be able to keep wickets for the remainder of IND vs ENG 4th Test, he will be available to bat. The board stated that Dhruv Jurel will keep wickets on the southpaw’s behalf. Earlier, reports had stated that the BCCI medical team would attempt to give pain-killers to Pant in order to allow him to come out and bat again on Day 2.

The southpaw was hit on his leg off a delivery from Chris Woakes which forced him to be carried off the field on Day 1 of IND vs ENG 4th Test. Pant was seen hobbling and writhing in pain and was struggling to put pressure on his injured leg as he was helped off the field. The selectors are looking to add Ishan Kishan to the squad for the 5th Test.

Rishabh managed to score 37 runs from 48 deliveries before he was forced to retire injured. As a result, India are short of a batter. It is pertinent to point out that Pant was spotted with crutches on Day 2, hinting that it was almost impossible for him to return to the field in this game.

Meanwhile, India lost a wicket in the 1st session of play on Day 2 as Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed by Jofra Archer for 20 runs off 40 deliveries.
