Rishabh Pant has become the first-ever visiting wicketkeeper to score over 1000 runs in any Test nation.

All the talks will be about whether Rishabh Pant will be able to bat on the second day of the India vs England 4th Test. Pant edged a ball, which struck him on his right foot. Such was the extent of the injury that Pant didn’t just have to retire hurt but needed to be stretched off the pitch.

But a little while ago, Pant had achieved something no other wicketkeeper had done in the history of Test cricket. With a six down the ground to Brydon Carse, Pant recorded his 1000th Test run in England. No visiting batter had even scored 800 runs in the nation. His predecessor, MS Dhoni, held the record for most runs scored by a visiting wicketkeeper in England.

Pant had already smashed that record after scoring a twin hundred at Headingley. Today, he’s become the first-ever visiting wicketkeeper to score 1000 Test runs in a country. Pant already held the record. His 879 runs in Australia were the record for any wicketkeeper.

  • 778 – MS Dhoni (India)
  • 773 – Rod Marsh (Australia)

But he’s one-upped himself. The foot injury has merely slowed him down. At 27, Pant might already be in the conversation of being the greatest wicketkeeper batter in Test cricket. With each passing match, he solidifies that claim. All eyes will be on whether he comes out to Manchester tomorrow, but for now, let’s appreciate the freak talent that is Rishabh Pant.
