Former Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane has recommended India to replace Jasprit Bumrah with this left-arm pacer for IND vs ENG 4th Test

Out-of-favour Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane has suggested that Arshdeep Singh to be Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in the IND vs ENG 4th Test, should the latter be unavailable. The former captain’s recommendation comes after assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that the veteran pacer is all but confirmed to take part in the Manchester Test. Amid the ongoing argument over Bumrah’s workload with the series poised in England’s favour, Rahane has come up with an alternative for India.

Should Arshdeep replace Bumrah in Manchester?

In a video on his YouTube channel, Rahane opined that Arshdeep Singh was the right man to replace Bumrah in the IND vs ENG 4th Test. The southpaw, who earned his maiden call-up to the Test team in the ongoing series, hasn’t featured in a match yet. Rahane pointed out that India needed the services of Arshdeep since he could get the ball to swing both ways in English conditions, adding that he could also assist the spinners.

I think so, yes. If Bumrah is not playing, Arshdeep is the guy. Because in England, you need a left-arm seamer who can swing the ball both ways, and also, with a different angle, he can create that rough for the spinners. So, if Bumrah doesn’t play, Arshdeep should play the next one,” Rahane said.

Is Arshdeep injured?

Arshdeep suffered an injury during training ahead of IND vs ENG 4th Test, while stopping a ball. It was confirmed by assistant coach ten Doeschate, and the bowler’s hand was later strapped with a bandage.

“He took a ball, while he was bowling there, the side of the ball; he tried to stop the ball. It’s just a cut, so we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team is taking him to see a doctor and if he needs stitches, that is going to be important to our planning for the next few days,” Ryan ten Doeschate said.
