Virat Kohli's nephew Aryaveer has "no baggage of surname," says DPL coach

Aryaveer Kohli is a leg-spinner by trade and will make his DPL debut soon.

One Kohli might leave cricket soon, but worry not, another has already joined it. Virat Kohli has already announced his retirement from T20I and Test cricket. The 36-year-old plays only ODIs and is currently in the Indian Premier League (IPL). But the question remains, how long?

Not everyone is MS Dhoni, who is 44 years old and continues to play. No one expected Kohli to leave Test cricket in particular so early. Luckily, there is another Kohli who carries the family name forward. His nephew, Aryaveer Kohli, has also begun his competitive cricket journey.

Aryaveer ready to write his own Kohli story

The 15-year-old will soon play in the Delhi Premier League (DPL). Earlier this month, Aryaveer was picked by the South Delhi Superstarz (SDS) for Rs 1 lakh at the DPL 2025 auction. Unlike his uncle, he isn’t a batter but a leg-spinner. And as per the current SDS coach and former Indian cricketer, Sarsandeep Singh, he isn’t looking to replicate his uncle’s heroics but is building his own path.

“Aryaveer Kohli is a rising star. He’s quite young,” Sarandeep told PTI. “There’s no baggage of the surname on the young lad. He’s a really good and talented kid. He’s been practising and putting in the hard work.”

Aryaveer has trained under Virat’s childhood coach Raj Kumar Sharma at the West Delhi Cricket Academy. He has the opportunity to grow with another brilliant leg-spinner in the team to learn from in Digvesh Rathi, who was one of the best spinners in the IPL 2025 season.
