Pat Cummins to be fined for heated exchange with umpire over run-out in WI vs AUS 3rd Test?

Pat Cummins was involved in a heated exchange with umpire Nitin Menon after a run-out was not given in WI vs AUS 3rd Test

Another instance of umpire vs players has flared up during the ongoing WI vs AUS Test series and this time it is the Australian captain who was unhappy. The 1st Test already saw third umpire Adrian Holdstock coming under fire for making blunders against the home team. On Sunday, Pat Cummins was unhappy with the decision of the on-field umpire and had a heated exchange with the official.

Pat Cummins unhappy with on-field umpire

The incident occurred during West Indies’ 1st innings when John Campbell was batting on 15 runs. The batter played a shot to Cummins at mid-on who then managed to hit a stump with a throw. While there was minimum appeal from the Australians, Cummins was unhappy with on-field umpire Nitin Menon for not referring the decision upstairs. Replays showed that Campbell’s bat had bounced after making it to the crease while the ball hit the stumps.

“I appealed. Check it out. Why wouldn’t you just check it out,” Cummins was heard asking the umpire after the next ball.

WI vs AUS 3rd Test: What happened so far

In response to Australia’s 225/10 in the 1st innings, West Indies crumbled for just 143 runs. Australia’s all-pace attack rattled the batters, with Scott Boland picking up three wickets. Hazlewood and Cummins added two to their name while Starc and Webster grabbed one each.

Campbell top-scored in the innings with a 36-run knock after getting a lifeline. Shai Hope (23) and Justin Greaves (18) attempted to rebuild the innings but it didn’t last for long.

Australia, however, were stunned by the West Indies bowlers in the 2nd innings. At the end of play on Day 2, the visitors were reduced to 99/6 with Alzarri Jospeh picking up three wickets to rattle the middle-order. Shamar Joseph successfully removed openers Usman Khawaja and Sam Konstas cheaply before Joseph wreaked havoc.

With 4 wickets left in hand, Australia are leading in the Day/Night Test by 181 runs at present. Going by the trend of how wickets are falling at the Sabina Park, the game might see a result on Day 3 itself.
