Vaibhav Suryavanshi failed to replicate his white-ball heroics in the IND U19 vs ENG U19 1st Youth Test on Saturday. The 14-year-old recently created history by smashing the fastest century in U19 history and has been in red-hot form. However, it did not translate to red-ball cricket as his stay in the middle was short-lived.
Suryavanshi fails red-ball test
India U19 captain Ayush Mhatre won the toss and decided to bat first. Walking out as an opener with his captain, Suryavanshi started off his innings in his trademark fashion. The smashed a boundary off the very first ball following which he struck two more fours in the same over.
Suryavanshi then ran two runs in the next over. However, his stay in the middle lasted only until the 4th over as he was caught out by Albert off Alex Green. Vaibhav’s score read 14 off 13 balls as he walked back to the pavilion.
There is no doubt about Suryavanshi’s abilities when it comes to white-ball cricket. From IPL 2025 to the tour to England, the 14-year-old has continued to enjoy a meteoric rise, making adjustments all the way along. However, his real challenge will be red-ball cricket.
Suryavanshi has played only five red-ball games so far in which he has scored 100 runs, averaging just 10. The Youth Test series against England U19 is the perfect platform for Vaibhav to get used to some foreign conditions and also improve his game.
