Cameron Green has bounced back strongly from injury and seems to be very well-prepared for the World Test Championship final. Australia will be hunting for their second consecutive mace as they take on South Africa in the WTC final that commences from June 11 at Lord’s. Green had been on the sidelines in Tests for nearly 12 months following a back surgery that also forced him to miss the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India.
Green turns heat up ahead of WTC final
Green last featured in a Test in Australia vs New Zealand in March 2024. In September 2024, he was forced to undergo a surgery for his back injury that not only saw him being ruled out from the series against India at home but also the Champions Trophy and IPL 2025. However, the all-rounder returned to action in April 2025 and he created instant impact, showing everyone that he was very well ready for action.
In five County Championship games for Gloucester, he has scored three centuries, with one more innings remaining before the WTC final. In his very first innings for the County side, he scored a 112-run knock. However, he was dismissed for just 3 runs in the 2nd innings.
The next two games saw him depart for single digit scores. However, he bounced back strongly in the following two games, registering knocks of 128, 67* and 118*.
| Match (vs) | Bat |

| Northamptonshire | 118* |
| Kent | 128 & 67* |
| Lancashire | 8 |
| LEICS | 4 & 2 |
| Kent | 112 & 3 |
Green, who made his Test debut in 2020, has 1377 runs and 35 wickets from 27 matches so far. He has turned out to be an go-to all-rounder for Pat Cummins & co. in the longest format of the game. With Mitchell Marsh not named in Australia’s squad for the WTC final, Green will play a crucial part in the line-up. He’ll strenghen the side’s batting order, providing more depth. However, it remains to be seen if he can bowl as he hasn’t been handed the ball so far in County cricket.
