The BCCI selected Karun Nair in the India squad in place of now retired Virat Kohli, and could be a good choice for the NO. 4 position.

It has been two days since the India squad for the England series was announced. And Shubman Gill was made the captain, while Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair were the two batters, who were drafted in as the new batters. Now, it remains to be seen, where does Shubman come in the batting order? No. 3 or No. 4 are the potential options.

Cheteshwar Pujara Opines..

India batter Cheteshwar Pujara offered his insight, as to how the Indian batter order should look like. The veteran maintained, unlike the popular opinion, that Shubman Gill should be at No. 3, while Karun Nair should follow at No. 4. “We don’t know whether Shubman is going to carry on batting at number three, or is he going to drop down to number four,” Pujara told Hindustan Times.

Shubman Gill More Suited for No. 3

He went on to add that even Abhimanyu Easwaran could be a good option in the batting order. “So if Shubman bats at number four, then there’s a vacancy at number three, then someone like Abhimanyu Easwaran or Karun Nair could be a good fit at that position. But I would still like to see if Shubman can carry on batting at number three and someone like Karun, who has batted really well in domestic cricket, gets an opportunity to bat at number four.”

Meanwhile, Pujara was pretty certain, that out of the newbies, Karun Nair is “more suitable” for the job. “It will be a bit more suitable for him because Karun is someone who hasn’t batted at number three in domestic cricket. I’m not saying he can’t do it for the Test team, but the ideal position for Karun would be number four.”
