Arshdeep Singh finally received his maiden Test call-up as he has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming series against England. Until now, the southpaw was dubbed as a white-ball bowler and had never managed to break into the Test side. The Indian pace attack for the England series will comprise of Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Siraj and Shadul Thakur apart from Arshdeep.
Arshdeep finally gets Test call-up
Arshdeep’s ability to swing the ball both ways will be of crucial importance for India in England. One of the primary reasons why he wasn’t considered for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was his reported inexperience of playing red-ball cricket.
However, he has 66 wickets from 21 first-class games played so far. Arshdeep managed to register his career best figures of 6/40 in the Duleep Trophy last year. Talking about his form in IPL 2025, he has already taken 16 wickets. Besides, Arshdeep’s height advantage can come of good use to India in bouncy conditions that various venues in England offer.

In the absence of Shami, Arshdeep has a golden opportunity to cement his place in the Test side in the upcoming series against Engalnd. Singh beat the likes of Khaleel Ahmed and Yash Dayal to make it to the Indian team. The five-match Test series is scheduled to commence from June 20 onwards. Prior to that, the team will also play against India A in an intra-squad match.
