Kolkata Knight Riders have named Shivam Shukla as a replacement for Rovman Powell for the rest of IPL 2025. Rahane and co. were eliminated from the playoffs race after their game against RCB was abandoned due to rain on Saturday. Powell, who featured in just two games for KKR, will skip the rest of IPL 2025 as he is a part of the West Indies squad that will take on England later this month.
No more Powell for KKR
KKR have roped in mystery spinner Shukla to replace Powell. The 29-year-old had made his debut for MP in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year and took 8 wickets in 8 matches. Shivam will now play second fiddle to Varun Chakravarthy.
The Caribbean power-hitter was signed for Rs 1.5 crore by KKR in the mega auction. However, he has only featured in two games in this season, and has batted in just one innings. As long as Russell is around, Powell will hardly get an opportunity in KKR. Hence, it would be wise for the team to release him and allow the star to explore his potential with other teams who are in need of power hitters or finishers.
