“‘He’ll be the next Chris Gayle only if…”: Yograj Singh bold claim on Arjun Tendulkar

"‘He’ll be the next Chris Gayle only if...": Yograj Singh bold claim on Arjun Tendulkar

Yograj Singh believes Arjun Tendulkar’s true spark lies in his batting and Yuvraj Singh could unlock it in future.

Yograj Singh, who is known for his bold comments, is now again back in the spotlight with a big claim about Arjun Tendulkar. Arjun, the son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Mumbai Indians player, trained under Yograj two years ago when he shifted from Mumbai to debut for Goa in the Ranji Trophy. After which Arjun scored a century in his debut match.

Though their time together was short, Yograj thinks Arjun’s potential is limitless, especially if he gets guidance from Yuvraj Singh. Yograj belives that Arjun has the potential to become like legendary batter Chris Gayle.

Yograj Singh on Arjun Tendulkar

There’s talk about Yuvraj Singh, who isn’t often in the news now but has played a crucial role in the success of young talents like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. Yograj is confident that if Yuvraj trains Arjun, he could become the next Chris Gayle in cricket. Yograj said, “With regards to Arjun, I said, focus less on his bowling and more on his batting. If Yuvraj takes Sachin’s son under his wings for three months, I bet he will become the next Chris Gayle.”

Arjun yet to play in IPL 2025

Arjun Tendulkar is yet to play in IPL 2025. The all-rounder hasn’t been able to make it into the XI so far. He played a few matches in the last season, but this year, he is just warming the bench. After going unsold in the mega auction 2025’s first round, Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs. 30 lakh in 2nd round of auction later.

Challenges in Arjun’s career

Recently, Arjun played for Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, with some impressive performances like his five-wicket haul against Arunachal. He has also played a few games for Mumbai Indians. However, in 2024, after MI was eliminated from the tournament, Arjun had an unfortunate outing, bowling two full tosses that were hit for sixes. To add to his woes, he left the field due to an injury, which was a stress fracture, a recurring issue for him.

Yograj believes that if Arjun focuses more on his batting and gets the right mentorship, especially from Yuvraj, his cricketing future could be bright.
