Rohit Sharma continued his barren run at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. But all is not lost. The former Mumbai Indians captain looked in his element till the time he batted against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 33 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit Sharma shows spark
For a fleeting moment, it felt like the old Rohit Sharma had returned. The swagger, the timing, the effortless sixes — all were on show in his 12-ball 26 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede. The Mumbai Indians opener, back in the XI as an Impact Player, rolled back the years with two elegant maximums off Mohammad Shami — a nonchalant pull over square leg and a top-edged swipe that cleared the rope. There was purpose in his footwork, confidence in his shot selection, and a sense of inevitability to his strokeplay.
But as has been the story of his IPL 2025 so far, the promise fizzled out just when it began to bloom. Pat Cummins, with a generous full toss outside off, offered a run-scoring gift — and Rohit accepted, only to gift his wicket instead. The drive, mistimed and flat, went straight to cover. Another start, another unconverted innings.
