Pakistan Super League (PSL 10) is just two days away and the country’s cricketers have already begun hyping up the ignored tournament. Many former Pakistan cricketers have claimed that PSL is better than the IPL, and Hasan Ali is the latest addition to that list. The Karachi Kings pacer has made a tall claim about the league, making an illogical comparison with IPL 2025.
Another day, another PSL > IPL claim from Pakistan
Speaking to Geo News ahead of PSL 10, Ali claimed that viewers would shift from watching IPL 2025 to PSL 10 if they played good cricket. Interestingly, majority of the overseas stars opted for IPL over PSL, including one South African star who opted to play for Mumbai Indians despite being drafted to a PSL franchise.
“Fans watch the tournament where there is good cricket with entertainment. If we play well in PSL, viewers will leave IPL to watch us,” Hasan claimed.
Why IPL is obviously bigger than PSL
IPL enjoys more attraction from all cricket boards and fans across the world. The lucrative deals offered to the players, the revenue earned from the tournament, the priority given to IPL over PSL, the ad revenues, and the star power outdoes PSL easily. In 2023, former PCB chief Najam Sethi had claimed that 150 million people had watched PSL while only 130 million people watched the IPL digitally. Sadly, the IPL has outgrown the PSL since then and even now.
PSL 10 will commence on April 11 and will overlap with IPL 2025. It is pertinent to point out that PSL is filled with IPL discards.
The official broadcaster of IPL 2025 is targeting a revenue of at least Rs 4500 crore in IPL 2025. Will PSL reach that level in the upcoming season? No. It is impposible.
