The IPL 2025 has so far been all about the youngsters and the young guns carrying their teams, winning matches, and performing incredibly well. One such player is Rajasthan Royals’ Dhruv Jurel. The youngster has scored 106 runs in 3 matches so far, with a strike rate of 151.42, and is shining brightly. He has been with the RR setup for a long time and is now emerging as a mature player for the team.
Jurel recently shared about his life, his journey into cricket, and how he overcame challenges in an interaction with AB de Villiers on “AB de Villiers 360″ YouTube channel. One touching moment was when he spoke about wanting to quit cricket and how he came back.
Dhruv Jurel wanted to quit cricket
Jurel, who has played for India and Rajasthan Royals, once considered quitting cricket. He shared an incident where he felt nothing was working for him, but some encouraging words from his father, who was in the Indian Army, helped him overcome his struggles.
“There was a time in my life when I wanted to quit cricket because I wasn’t getting any tournament opportunities or matches. I wasn’t playing high-level cricket. I told my father, ‘Papa, I can’t do it.’ He asked me what was happening. My dad told me a story from the time when he was about to join the army.”
Father’s words changed Jurel’s destiny
Jurel believes that when he wanted to quit cricket, it was his father who motivated him. His words and backing helped Jurel to reach heights in the Cricket universe. Telling about the incident further, he Jurel shared, “The army is tough, and you know 80% of the people who join quit early. But my grandfather told my father, ‘If you want to serve the nation, go ahead, and I will be so proud of you, but just don’t quit. If you want to quit, don’t come near my house.’ That was exactly what he told me: ‘Go on, give it your shot. If it doesn’t happen, I’m here for you. It’s okay. You are doing your work; just go.’ After that, I got selected for the Under-19 India team. I was the vice-captain for the World Cup, and that’s how my career started,”.
Jurel’s incredible journey from U-19 to Rajasthan Royals
Dhruv Jurel has had an incredible journey. He is the son of a Kargil War veteran and initially wanted to join the Indian Army but gradually transitioned into the world of cricket. In 2019, he was the vice-captain of the Under-19 team in South Africa.
Although he hadn’t played much domestic cricket by 2020, Rajasthan Royals picked him for IPL 2020, although he made his debut in 2023. Besides that, he has also played four Test matches and four T20Is for the national team. Jurel’s career trajectory is definitely on the rise.
