Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has returned to the NCA in Bengaluru following the RR vs CSK tie in Guwahati. The Kerala keeper-batter, who sustained a fracture to his right index finger before IPL 2025, was cleared to play only as a pure batter in the first three games of the tournament. Samson handed over the reins of the team to Riyan Parag for the first three games as he was not completely fit.
Will Samson be fully fit for RR vs PBKS tie?
As per Times of India, Samson has returned to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to undergo final fitness tests. The results of these examinations will determine if he will return to keeping wickets for RR in IPL 2025. Further, the report states that the results will also decide if Sanju will return as RR’s full-time skipper or if Parag will carry on with the responsibility.
The Kerala keeper-batter played as an impact player in RR’s first three IPL 2025 games. He managed to score 66, 13 and 20 in three innings. Should Samson clear all the tests at the NCA, he will return as RR’s captain for their tie against PBKS in Mullanpur on April 5.
Having suffered a blow on his right hand in Mumbai earlier in this year, Samson underwent right index finger surgery on Feb 11. He then recieved green light from the BCCI to play in the intital stages of the IPL 2025, but only as a batter. Meanwhile, Dhurv Jurel has been keeping wickets for Rajasthan Royals.
“I think I’m not completely fit for the next three games. So I think, there are lot of leaders in this group. I think from last few years, there have been some great people who have taken care of this environment. But for the next three games, Riyan will be leading the team,” Samson had before.
