After enduring a sub-par Test season, poor form is back to haunt Rohit Sharma – this time in IPL 2025. Although he retired from T20Is on a high note by winning the World Cup in 2024, his struggles in the shortest format of the game have not vanished. The former Mumbai Indians captain has a curse that he needs to break free of in IPL 2025 without any delay, and it can start from the game against KKR on Monday.
Rohit’s 4-year-old IPL curse
Since the start of IPL 2022, Rohit has been dismissed seven times within the first over. This includes the MI opener being sent back to the pavilion two times this season within 4 deliveries in the first over. After being retained for nearly Rs 16 crore, it is high time the Hitman breaks out of this streak and does better to relieve the middle-order of the pressure.

Rohit will be looking to rediscover his form and take inspiration from the Player of the Match winning performance in the Champions Trophy final. Without the Hitman firing at the top, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma are absorbing all the pressure. Since Rohit is playing purely as a batter so far in IPL 2025, it is imperative he starts firing at the top-order so that MI return to winning ways.
