"How come England didn't win?": Sunil Gavaskar silences Nasser Hussain & co for negative comments

Sunil Gavaskar launches brutal dig towards Nasser Hussain & Mike Atherton for claiming India's home advantage

The controversy in the ICC Champions Trophy continues. The India Cricket Team lifted the silverware by beating New Zealand in Dubai. Experts had previously bashed India for getting unfair advantage by playing all their games in Dubai. Now former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has slammed Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton for their previous claims.

Pakistan were the hosts of the tournament. But India refused to visit their arch rivals and thus a hybrid setup was opted. India played all their games including the finals in Dubai and lifted the title. Sunil Gavaskar silenced all claims of India getting an unfair advantage at the venue.

“There will be the carpers who talked about the advantage India had playing only at one venue and not having to travel between matches. However, that was decided by the ICC much before the tournament started, and any negative comment about that should have happened before the tournament’s first ball was bowled,” Gavaskar wrote on Sportstar.

Sunil Gavaskar launched a vicious attack on England, claiming that the Three Lions have won just a single World Cup despite hosting multiple tournaments. He silenced the critics saying that India didn’t have a home advantage. In fact, he questioned why England has one title despite hosting it half a dozen times.

“And if ‘home advantage’ is the reason India won, then how come England, from where most of the whingers were, did not win ICC trophies till 2019 despite hosting it about half a dozen times earlier?” he added.

“Rohit also squashed rumours about his impending retirement, saying he has not decided to retire from the format. The next big 50-over tournament is the ICC World Cup in South Africa in 2027, and the selectors will now have to tread gingerly around the team selection in the coming months. Seeing Rohit receive the Champions Trophy from ICC Chairman Jay Shah was a joyous moment for all Indian cricket lovers, and they will forever be indebted to the team for giving them this cherished visual,” he concluded.
