The Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly unhappy with the ICC’s response as to why no PCB official was present at the Champions Trophy final ceremony. While BCCI president Roger Binny, New Zealand Cricket director Roger Twose along with ICC Chairman Jay Shah were present at the closing ceremony, no official from the host nation was on stage, triggering a debate. While the matter was raised to the ICC by the PCB, the latter is clearly not impressed by the former’s response.
Pakistan unhappy with Champions Trophy snub
As per NDTV, a PCB source claimed that the ICC had made preparations for PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi to be on stage but changed plans when he couldn’t. The report stated that Pakistan had rejected this explanation. Further, the PCB claimed that the ICC had made a number of errors during the tournament regarding Pakistan’s status as the host country.

What the ICC had said?
PCB COO Sumair Ahmad Syed and PCB Director Usman Wahla were present in the stadium and yet weren’t called to the stage. ICC answered as to why this happened. Only the president, vice president, chairman, or CEO of boards is invited to the stage. Since the PCB didn’t send any of those mentioned above, Pakistan has no representation.
“Mr. Naqvi was unavailable and didn’t travel to Dubai for the final. The ICC only invites the head of the host board—such as the president, vice president, chairman, or CEO—to participate in the awards ceremony. Other board officials, regardless of their presence at the venue, are not part of the stage proceedings,” an ICC spokesperson told Geo.tv.
