Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the Indian cricket team for clinching the ICC Champions Trophy, calling it an exceptional game.
Arguably one of the best cricket matches witnessed this year, the Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand on March 9 broke multiple records, from viewership milestones to India’s remarkable achievement of adding another trophy to their cabinet.
Rohit Sharma-led India secured a four-wicket victory over New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium, successfully chasing down the target of 252 runs. Although there was a brief hiccup when Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were dismissed, the middle-order batters ensured India remained steady. In the end, it was Ravindra Jadeja who sealed the victory with the final runs.
Previously, India had shared the trophy with Sri Lanka in 2002 under Sourav Ganguly’s leadership and later triumphed against hosts England in the 2013 final under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s captaincy.
Take a look at what Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after India’s Champions Trophy final win.
