The men in blue did it. Rohit Sharma and his team won the Champions Trophy after remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy final held at the Dubai International Stadium. Batting first, New Zealand posted a score of 251/7 in their 50 overs. In reply, India played remarkably well, achieving the target in 49 overs. Rohit Sharma performed well, scoring a half-century with 76 runs off 83 balls. Shreyas Iyer contributed significantly in the middle order, scoring 48 runs off 62 balls. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten at the end. Rahul played a crucial knock of 34 runs off 33 balls, while Jadeja came in during the final few overs and scored the winning runs, remaining not out at 9 runs off 6 balls.

Ravindra Jadeja on Champions Trophy Win

After winning the Champions Trophy, Ravindra Jadeja said, “My batting position means I’m either a hero or a zero. It was important that KL and Hardik did well in that partnership, as the wicket wasn’t easy. Playing for India and winning the Champions Trophy for the country is a big achievement. I do regret when I’m not part of winning teams, but I’m lucky to be fit and perform at the highest level in winning two tournaments, the 2024 T20 World Cup and this tournament.”

Speculation on Jadeja’s retirement

During the match, many speculated that Ravindra Jadeja might retire from ODI cricket after the win. After his spell in the first innings, Virat Kohli and other senior members of the team hugged him, leading to further speculation. However, as of now, Ravindra Jadeja hasn’t said anything about his retirement yet.
